Jesus, the Eye Doctor

14 Dec

Read Luke 7:36-50.

Question from Jesus the Eye Doctor: Do you see this woman? (Luke 7:44)

Two sets of eyes, the first set of eyes belonged to Simon the Pharisee. He saw who this woman was- a filthy piece of unclean garbage, infecting a clean rabbi. He saw what this woman was- sinful trash that needed to be dumped away from here.

Two sets of eyes, the second set belonged to Jesus of Nazareth. He saw who this woman was- a beloved, precious, priceless daughter of God. She was both a victim of sin and an inflictor of sin. He saw what this woman was- a desperate soul in need of forgiveness, healing, grace and love.

Your congregation is the Body of Christ, and my congregation is the Body of Christ. Our calling is to look at people through Jesus Eyes.

The examen questions:

  1. When have we looked at others, using the eyes of Simon the Pharisee?
  2. When have we looked at others as the Body of Christ, using the Eyes of Jesus?
