The appointed readings for today are from Exodus 14:10-31;15:20-21 and Colossians 3:5-11 and Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24. In these passages, I discern a common thread. God desires to rescue us from “death squads.”
Pharaoh’s army was hunting down the people. God rescued the people from the “Pharaoh’s death squad” (Exodus)
There are things in our lives that are deadly to ourselves and others. We are to put these “death squads” to death. (Colossians)
“I shall not die, but live” The “death squads” will not have the last word; the God revealed in the resurrection of Jesus will have the last word. (Psalms)
Let us pray. O Lord, we beg you to put to death in us anything that is harmful to ourselves and others. Amen.
